Cost: $200

In this interactive workshop, we will gain practical knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the spine, shoulder girdle and arms from a functional perspective. It will take us through an interactive discussion looking at scapular control with horizontal and vertical push/pull motions in our Pilates practice. We will focus on proper positioning, biomechanics, muscle function and ways it can be used to improve movement patterns. This workshop will help give you the structure needed to make exercise choices, thus improving your efficiency and effectiveness in teaching your clients and in your personal Pilates practice.
Maria Sison-Wright is the owner of Inner Core Wellness in Fairfax, Virginia. She has been practicing as a physical therapist for 33 years with extensive experience in orthopedic, neurological and sport injuries. In 2004, she received her Pilates certification under the tutelage of master teachers Romana Kryzanowska and her daughter, Sari Mejia Santo, in New York City. She is currently a Level IV Teacher Trainer for Romana's Pilates. She is a SFMA (Selective Functional Movement Assessment) specialist and also a fully certified MELT Method instructor. Thanks to her strong interest in Pilates, functional movement and the MELT Method, she has been able to apply the Pilates principles and functional training in her physical therapy practice with positive results from her patients. She believes in a “w”holistic approach of physical therapy addressing the body as a whole, thus rehabilitating not only the specific injury but the overall well-being of her clients. She is an active member of the APTA and Romana’s Pilates. Maria is a very passionate and active member of MMOM USA which provides free volunteer medical services to the underprivileged in the Philippines and Guatemala.
